Google is now offering Internet Explorer users the chance to experience Chrome levels of speed when it comes to JavaScript execution. Is this a clever way to poach users or little more than a tech experiment?
Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) received a small bump in market share yesterday as the company launched the final version midday, according to Web measurement company Net Applications Inc.
IE8's market share averaged 1.63% for the day Thursday from noon Eastern time onward -- when Microsoft posted the new browser for download -- a 21% increase over March's daily average of 1.35% through Wednesday. Net Applications has posted hourly market share numbers for IE8 on its Web site.
Microsoft Corp. may be talking up the performance boost it gave to its just-launched Internet Explorer 8, but the new browser remains the slowest of the top five on the market, benchmark tests show.
According to JavaScript rendering tests run by Computerworld, the final version of IE8 is only slightly faster than the browser's Release Candidate 1, which Microsoft delivered in January.
Sometimes you regret sending a message. Other times you send a message and then immediately notice a mistake. You forget to attach a file or email the birthday girl that I can't make her surprise party. I can rush to close my browser or unplug the Internet — but Gmail almost always wins that race.

Microsoft has released Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 for download from early this morning.
Microsoft is touting the newest version of its browser, available here, as being faster and offering "leading edge" security features.

Until now the answer has been "there aren't any officially supported". That's changed, And it's about time. Microsoft recently, finally, enabled POP3 and SMTP access to Hotmail accounts!
